- power Feed
- wire for direct burial has to be at least 24" below grade
- wire in conduit has to be at least 18" below grade
- if in conduit and the main circuit is ground faulted then it only has to be at least 12"
- weatherproof panel
- can be NO higher than 6'6" from the ground. there is NO minimum set. Mount in a comfortable height for you to work and operate.
- Breakers to the pump and is a pool light is installed must be GFC unless you have a GFCI breaker feeding the sub-panel from the main panel
- Bonding wire
- must go around the whole pool.
- Attach to any cups for ladders
- if rebar is used for sidewalks it must attach at for points on the rebar grid.
- It will terminate at the pool pump and heater(if heater is used).
- if a grounding rod is required (it was not required by my inspector)
- you should dig a 12" wide by 12" deep hole. depending on your clamp type you may have to put it on the rod before you start hammering it into the ground cause you will deform the rod end. Sharp end into the group hammer away until it just out of the bottom of the hole you dug. Connect your ground wire and bury the wire running it up to the panel. There should be a small hole in the bottom of the panel for the grounding wire and connect it to the ground bar.
- Grounding bar must be 8'
- grounding wire has to be i believe the same size as the feeding wire.
- my case i am using #10 to feed my sub-panel so i would need to use #10 to ground the panel to the ground rod. I believe the rule of one smaller was changed in recent NEC code revisions.
- Fencing
- if your fence surrounds the pool you must have a locking mechanism on the gate to enter the pool area
- if you have a fence connected to your home and a door from the house opens into the pool area you must have a door alarm
- pool lights
- wet niche light requires a dex box
- LED nichless light does NOT require a dex box, only a transformer per manufactures instructions
- the transformer or deck box has to be a minimum horizontal distance of 4' from the pool and a vertical height of 4" minimum from ground level or 8" minimum above the water level (whichever provides the greatest elevation)
- wire types
- wiring from the main indoor panel you can use romex up till you get to the exterior. inside the house you can put a junction box and switch to exterior wire.
